Are your teeth stained, chipped, or not aligned on top of each other? Veneers are a good treatment option to consider because they look like natural teeth and don’t require a major procedure.
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false finger nail) that is bonded on top of your own tooth. Based on your needs, we can adjust the shape of your veneers to make your teeth overall look longer and or closer together. You can have just one veneer or a whole set, known as a smile makeover.
For a single stained tooth we can also match the precise shade of porcelain to give it a lighter appearance and fit in with the surrounding teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when braces are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
What Is The Difference Between Composite Veneers and Porcelain Veneers?
These veneers differ in the material used; composite veneers are shaped and moulded to the tooth using a composite resin, whereas porcelain veneers use a thin layer of porcelain. At Bounty Road Dental we use porcelain due to its higher quality and more durable material. Porcelain veneers last longer and are more stain-resistant than composite veneers.
How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
On average porcelian veneers last 15 years; however, with good oral hygiene care, they can last even longer. To improve the lifespan of porcelain veneers, we recommend avoiding regularly eating hard foods, avoiding grinding your teeth, maintaining good oral hygiene, and getting regular dental check-ups. Once the veneers have reached the end of their life span, they will need to be replaced.
Will Veneers Whiten or Straighten My Teeth?
Veneers do not actually whiten the teeth, if you want whiter teeth, we will whiten the surrounding teeth prior to adding the veneers, which are colour-matched. Similarly, veneers will not physically move the actual teeth, but they can help the teeth appear straighter with expert placement in the case of small gaps and slight misalignments.
Will Veneers Protect My Teeth?
Veneers can protect your teeth from staining and sensitivity, but they do not protect against decay. This means it is essential to maintain good oral hygiene, as the tooth can decay underneath the veneer.
